I have to say up front, I based this off of a Pampered Chef recipe that I saw at a show about four years ago. I don't have the recipe so I don't know exactly how PC makes this desert. This is just my version based on what I remember and what tastes good.
Black Forest Trifle
1 box Devil's Food Cake mix (& ingredients to make as box suggests)
1 tub cool whip (8-10 oz.)
1 pkg. Jello cheesecake flavored pudding
2 c cold milk
2 cans cherry pie filling
chocolate bar (I use Hershey's special dark)
1. Mix the cake following box instructions. Pour all of the batter into one 8x8" pan. Bake at 375 F for roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. (I bake for 50, check, add 15, check, etc.) This will make the cake especially moist. Cool cake fully, overnight is ideal.
2. Make Jello pudding according to package. Set for at least one hour.
3. Fold pudding and cool whip together in bowl. Combine well. Set aside.
4. Cut cake into apx. 1" cubes.
5. Layer in large trifle bowl: 1/3 cake, 1 can cherries, 1/3 pudding mixture, 1/3 cake, 1 can cherries, 1/3 pudding mixture, 1/3 cake, 1/3 pudding mixture.
6. Top with chocolate bar shavings. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
